Understanding Your Options

Monthly Plan or One-Time Build? Here's What Each Actually Includes

Both are honest, fair ways to get a website from us. But they cover very different things, and comparing the sticker prices alone doesn't tell the whole story. Here's the full picture.

The Short Version

A monthly plan is one predictable price that bundles the build, hosting, SSL, backups, SEO foundations, and up to 4 content changes every month. Nothing else to pay, ever.

A one-time build means you own the finished site outright once it's paid off. Hosting and any future changes are separate, ongoing costs on top of that.

What "Owning" Really Means

Ownership Isn't the Same as "Done Forever"

When you pay for a one-time build, you own the design and code outright once it's paid in full. That part's real, and it's yours. But a website isn't like buying a piece of furniture that just sits there once you own it. It still needs to live on a server to be visible on the internet, and it still needs to change over time: new hours, new prices, a new photo, a new service you started offering.

Owning your site means we don't retain any rights to the design. It does not mean hosting is free forever, and it does not mean future changes are free. Those are separate services, priced separately, whether you own your site or you're on a monthly plan with us.

A Monthly Plan Isn't Rent, and It Isn't Rent-to-Own

It's easy to assume a monthly plan works like renting an apartment or leasing furniture: you pay every month, and you're never quite building toward anything until some final payoff. That's not what's happening here.

From the day your site goes live, you have the complete, professional website you're paying for: the same custom design, the same hosting, the same SEO foundation, and the same ongoing changes as anyone who paid for the build outright. We do that work upfront, well before we've collected anywhere near what it costs us to build it, because we're confident the relationship built over the plan term is worth that investment. You're not slowly earning your way up to a finished site. You already have the whole thing.

That's the trade we're making: full value for you from day one, in exchange for your commitment over time. It works because we're willing to bet on the relationship, not because there's a catch built in.

Side by Side

What Each Option Actually Covers

Monthly Plan

One Price, Everything Included

  • Custom design and build
  • Hosting, SSL, and daily backups
  • Local SEO foundations and copywriting
  • Up to 4 content changes every month, included
  • Nothing else ever bills you separately
One-Time Build

You Own It, Everything Else Is Separate

  • Custom design and build, yours outright once paid off
  • Hosting not included, starts at $29/month separately
  • Future changes not included, billed $85/hour ($25 minimum)
  • Or add Hosting Plus ($105/month) for hosting + 4 changes/month included

A Real Example

The Math Over 24 Months, Using Our Growth Plan

Here's why comparing just the sticker prices can be misleading. This uses our real Growth plan numbers ($249/mo, or $4,990 as a one-time build).

PathWhat's Included24-Month Total
Monthly Growth plan Build + hosting + 4 changes/month, the whole time $5,976
One-time build + Hosting Only Build + hosting, zero content changes included $5,686
One-time build + Hosting Plus Build + hosting + 4 changes/month, matching the monthly plan $7,510

Notice that once you add the same hosting and the same 4-changes-a-month support, the one-time route ($7,510) actually costs more than just starting on the monthly plan ($5,976). The one-time build is only cheaper if you truly never need a single change for two years, which is rare for a business that updates hours, prices, photos, or services. Exact numbers vary by plan, see our full pricing or ask us to run the numbers for your specific plan.

What Changes Cost Without Hosting Plus

If you own your site and only have Hosting Only ($29/month, no changes included), any future update is billed at $85/hour with a $25 minimum per request. That's genuinely a good deal if you only need a change once or twice a year. But it adds up faster than people expect: once you're asking for around 3 or more small changes a month, the $105/month Hosting Plus plan (4 changes included) usually works out cheaper than paying per request.

FAQ

Common Questions

Owning the design and code doesn't make the internet free. Every website, no matter who owns it, needs to live on a server to be visible to visitors. Hosting is what keeps it online, fast, secure, and backed up. It's a separate, ongoing service from the build itself.
Things like updating text, swapping a photo, changing your hours or pricing, or adding a new service to an existing page. Larger changes, like new pages or a redesign, are quoted separately.
Then a one-time build with Hosting Only, plus paying $85/hour ($25 minimum) as changes come up, is likely your cheapest path. Hosting Plus and the monthly plans earn their price back once you're making more frequent updates.

It depends entirely on how many changes you'll realistically need. Try the instant estimator or just call us, we'd rather walk through the real numbers with you than have you guess.
